The West Coast Disability Resource Service aims to provide disability and health related information to disabled people, older people, family/whanau and others who support the rights of everyone to live good lives in their communities.
Historically there has been excellent provision of information via the Disability Information Service in Greymouth. Eventually it became unviable to have a Centre in Greymouth so the service was provided from the Queenstown Disabilities Resource Centre. This was not successful so the NZ Federation of Disability Information Centres introduced the Disability Resource Service West Coast and looked at innovative ways to provide high quality disability, health related and community information in the area.
WestREAP was contracted to provide the DRS service from 1st July 2018. Up to that point the West Coast DRS service had been provided by two very capable home based Information Consultants but the service needed to grow in response to increased demand.
WestREAP are providers of Education and Activity programmes and have extensive networks in the West Coast and will bring their innovative solutions to service provision, particularly in rural and remote areas of the West Coast. WestREAP have increased the number of Information Consultants from two to three so the whole Coast is covered.
West Coast Disability Resource Service is a Principal Member of the NZ Federation of Disability Information Centres whose Executive Team have some strong links with the West Coast.

The West Coast (Maori: Te Tai Poutini) is a region of New Zealand on the west coast of the South Island, one of the more remote and most sparsely populated areas of the country. The June 2015 estimated population was 32,700.It is administered by the West Coast Regional Council. The region's area is 23,276 km2.
The West Coast Disability Resource Service was started in 2004 to cater to the West Coast local communities.
The West Coast Disability Resource Service are actively working with community groups and national organisations to ensure they have a comprehensive and relevant information hub for both Coasters and visitors to the region. Our three Information Consultants cover the vast area from Karamea in the north to Haast in the south and everything in between!
